              <text>Know all men by these presents, that the undersigned heirs at law and distributes of the late James Jett Esqr. of Scott County Virginia, for and in consideration of the faithfulness and obedience of Andy, one of the slaves of the estate of the aforesaid James Jett Esqr. to his Master and to the family, we do hereby in consideration of the premises, &amp; the further consideration of one dollar to us in hand paid, the receipt whereof is acknowledged, emancipate &amp; set at liberty the said Andy releasing all claim, that [illegible] to us in &amp; to him thus making him a free man. Given under our hands &amp; seals this 24th day  of May 1848.&#13;
