              <text>Be it known unto all whom it may concern that on this third day of September in the year eighteen hundred and three it is agreed between John Gibson of Prospect Hill near Dumfries of the one part and Alexander Henderson of Dumfries Attorney in fact for Catharine Douglas, Margaret Douglas, &amp; Catherine Douglas the younger, all of Rosehall in Scotland of the other part in manner following to wit. The said Alexander Henderson by virtue of powers to him given which are of record in Prince William County shall convey to the said John Gibson by deeds with warranty on the part of the said Catherine Margaret &amp; Catherine the younger general as to the tract on Cedar Run &amp; special as to the other all the lands now belonging to them in the said county as well the tract conveyed by Robert, Brent &amp; Ann his wife for eight hundred and forty acres on Cedar Run as that near the other part conveyed by William Tackett &amp; wife for one hundred and fifty eight acres to the said Alexander Henderson for their use. In consideration whereof the said John Gibson agrees to pay fifteen hundred pounds sterling to the said Catherine Douglas, Margaret Douglas and Catherine Douglas the younger in four equal annual installments with legal interest from the first day of January next. That is to say three hundred and seventy five pounds sterling on or before the last day of December in the year eighteen hundred &amp; four with one year’s interest on the same, three hundred and seventy five pounds more on or before the last day of December which shall be in the year eighteen hundred and five with two years interest thereon. The further sum of three hundred &amp; seventy five pounds on or before the last day of December which shall be in the year eighteen hundred and six with three years interest thereon. And the like sum of three hundred and seventy five pounds on or before the last day of December which shall be in the year eighteen hundred and seven with interest from the first day of January next. And to grant his bonds for payment of the respective sums with interest accordingly to the said Catherine, Margaret, &amp; Catherine their attorney or assigns. Moreover it having been the pleasure of the said Catherine, Margaret &amp; Catherine that two old and faithful servants to wit Juba and Nanny should have and receive their freedom together with the service during the life of the longest liver of them of their youngest daughter named Sally. Also a part of the lands within mentioned for the support and such their pleasure having been notified to the said Alexander Henderson their attorney in fact, but not until the age of the said Juba and Nanny had exceeded that when they could be emancipated without indemnification to the county should be given to secure the said county against any expense for maintaining them. It is by this agreement, on the part of the said John Gibson expressly stipulated that the said Juba and Nanny shall continue to have and enjoy their freedom together with the land they live on which is a part of that conveyed by Tackett or such other they shall choose and shall to him be agreeable. Also that he the said John Gibson doth hereby agree and undertake to indemnify and save harmless the said county of Prince William from all charges and expenses on account of them the said Juba &amp; Nanny or either of them and that they shall have land sufficient for a comfortable maintenance during their lives also during that term for the said Sally their daughter. In consideration whereof it is agreed on the part of the said Catherine, Margaret &amp; Catharine the younger by Alexander Henderson their attorney in fact that after the death of the said negroes Juba &amp; Nanny their said daughter Sally shall be and become the property of the said John Gibson which reversionary right in the said negro girl Sally and her increase unto the said John Gibson and his assigns against the claim and demand of the said Catherine Douglas, Margaret Douglas &amp; Catherine Douglas the younger, their heirs, executors, admrs, &amp; assigns is by their said attorney hereby warranted. In witness whereof the said John Gibson and the said Catherine Douglas, Margaret Douglas &amp; Catherine Douglas the younger by their said attorney have hereunto set their hands &amp; seals the day first above mentioned.&#13;

I Jacob Calvert of Prince Wm County being infirm of body but in perfect mind and memory do constitute &amp; ordain this my last will &amp; testament in manner and form as follows. First its my particular desire that my body be decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereafter named and the grave yard well maintained, and a tombstone placed over my grave. Secondly, I desire that my trusty slave Jacob be emancipated who hath assisted me in accumulating the property I now possess. Thirdly, I give to my loving wife the balance of my estate both real &amp; personal during her natural life or widowhood, but if she marries then in that case it is my will &amp; desire that she relinquishes one half of the estate I have given her to my brother John Calvert, Joseph &amp; Jacob Butler, Mary Kincheloe, and Patsey Mitchell equally to be divided among them. The other half I leave to my wife and her heirs forever. I nominate &amp; appoint my wife whole &amp; sole executrix of this my last will and testament.               <text>I, John Thorowgood of the County of Princess Anne and State&#13;
of Virginia, do declare this instrument to be, and do hereby publish the&#13;
same as my last will and Testament.. Article the first, I give and&#13;
bequeath to my son John Wainhouse Thorowgood to him and his heirs for&#13;
ever, should he have any to survive him, the plantation I now live on&#13;
situated in the County of Princess Anne, on Lynhaven river, containing&#13;
four hundred acres (be the same more or less) but should he die with&#13;
-out leaving any heirs to survive him, then and in that case, it is my&#13;
will and desire, that my son Adam Thorowgood shall have the said&#13;
Plantation to him and his heirs for ever, on the decease of the said&#13;

of young cows, not under two nor over three years old, one yoke of Oxen, one&#13;
work horse six young Ewes, the pair of looking Glasses standing in the&#13;
Hall of the house I occupy, a pair of black walnut tables, fourteen hair&#13;
bottomed chairs, a bed and furniture, a silver tankard, and six silver&#13;
table spoons, to him and his heirs forever, the fourth, I give and bequeath&#13;
to my son Adam Thorowgood to him and his heirs for ever, my Plantation&#13;
&#13;
lying on the east side of Lynhaven bay which I purchased of Thomas Hunter&#13;
and which joins the land of Capt. William Keeling, containing three hund-&#13;
-red and thirty three acres, be the same more or less, the fifth I give and&#13;
bequeath to my son Adam Thorowgood to him and his heirs for ever the follow&#13;
-ing Negroes, to wit, Lawrence, Jim, Tom, Argyle, Cicero, Robbin, Moody,&#13;
Isaac, Hannah, Sarah, Betty, and her child called Billy, Dina[?], Peg&#13;
and Hannah the child of Hannah, also two beds with their furniture,&#13;
the sixth, I give and bequeath to my son Adam Thorowgood all the&#13;
horned Cattle and Sheep which belongs to my Lynhaven plantation, also&#13;
one work horse to him and his heirs forever — the seventh, I give and&#13;
bequeath to my daughter Susannah Thorowgood, wife of James Thorowgood&#13;
for and during her natural life the use of the following Negroes, to wit,&#13;
Jack, Anthony, Amy, Tib, Littice, Warwick, Nancy, Sylvia, Mason,&#13;
and Fanny, on the decease of my said daughter Susannah, it is my will&#13;
and desire that the Negroes last above mentioned shall be equally&#13;
divided among her, the said Susannah's Children in fee simple —&#13;
the eighth, I give and bequeath to my grandson John Thorowgood son&#13;
of James Thorowgood and Susannah his wife, my daughter, all my lands&#13;
in Puggets Neck, in the County of Princess Anne, to him and his&#13;
heirs forever, also I give and bequeath to my said Grandson John&#13;
Thorowgood to him and his heirs forever the following Negroes, to wit,&#13;
Scilla and Pleasant, the Ninth, I give and bequeath unto the&#13;

Child, with which my daughter Susannah is now pregnant, if a&#13;
male Child to him and his heirs, one hundred &amp; forty acres of land&#13;
in the County of Princess Anne, called Denbys tract, adjoining&#13;
the lands of Elizabeth Haynes, James Haynes, Jacquemine Thorow&#13;
good Orphan of William Thorowgood decd; but should the child with&#13;
which my daughter Susannah is now pregnant prove not to be a male&#13;
child, or proving to be a male Child should die without leaving any heirs,&#13;
then and in that case, I give and bequeath the said piece of land last&#13;
above mentioned, to my Grand son James Thorowgood to him and&#13;
his heirs for ever, the tenth, I give and bequeath to Mary Thorowgood my&#13;
God daughter one negro Girl called Phillis, to her and her heirs for ever,&#13;
the eleventh, I give and bequeath to James Kempe, my Nephew one negro&#13;
boy called Frank to him and his heirs for ever, the twelfth, I give and&#13;
bequeath to James Thorowgood my son in law, six young cows, one yoke&#13;
of Oxen, one work horse, six young ewes and a bed, with its furniture, to&#13;
him and his heirs forever, the thirteenth, I give and bequeath to Susanna&#13;
Wainhouse Thorowgood my Grand daughter, one negro Man called Harry&#13;
to her and her heirs for ever, the fourteenth, It is my will and desire&#13;
that Phobe the negroe wench who constantly waited on me should have&#13;
her freedom as a reward for the fidelity of her conduct towards me to&#13;
effectuate which in her behalf, I do hereby emancipate and set free the&#13;
said Phobe immediately on my decease, and I do enjoin, and direct my&#13;
&#13;
Executors annually during her life, to pay her the sum of twenty dollars&#13;
for her support, the fifteenth, It is my will and desire that out of&#13;
the rest and residue of my personal estate that all my debts should be&#13;
paid by my executors, and if there should remain a balance after the&#13;
payment of the same, that such balance should be divided equally&#13;
between my two sons John Wainhouse Thorowgood, Adam Thorowgood&#13;
and my daughter Susannah Thorowgood to them and their heirs forever,&#13;
the sixteenth, I do hereby nominate and appoint for the purpose of carrying&#13;
