              <text>Know all men by these presents that I William Davis of the County of Charlotte for and in Consideration of the Sum of forty pounds to me on hand paid or secured to be paid by a Negro man Slave named Harry belonging to me have an do emancipate &amp; set free him the said Negro man Slave Harry here by relinquishing and forever quitting claim to all estate right, title, Interest, or property which me my heirs Executors, Administrators or assigns or all or any of them had and have or might and could have had if these presents had never been made to him or in him the said Harry; giving and granting to him all Rights, privileges immunities and advantages which free Negroes are by law entitled to, and forever warranting to him the said Harry his heirs executors administrators or Legal Representative the fall and peaceable do [illegible] of the and emancipation aforesaid against the title claim or demand of all and every person or persons claiming by from or under me, my heirs Executors, Administrators, Assigns. That is to say Toney a Man about Twenty five years old free at this time. Rose a Woman shall be free next December, who is now about twenty four or twenty five years old. Easter, a Woman shall be free in the Month of December, one thousand seven hundred and ninety five who is now about seventeen years old. Edmund a Man shall be free in the month of December one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine, who is now about fourteen years old. Lucy a Woman shall be free in the month of December, one thousand eight hundred and one, who is now about twelve years old.               <text>In the name of God Amen I James Tarpley of the Parish of Cornwall, County of Charlotte and State of Virginia, Planter, being very sick and weak in body and of perfect mind and memory thanks be to almighty God for it, and knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner &amp; form as follows, that is I resign my soul to God who gave it in hopes of his blessed acceptance of the same and my body to the dust from whence it originated in same and contain hopes of a general resurrection of all men at the last day. And as for what worldly substance the Lord has been pleased to bestow upon me I will and bequeath as follows. Imprimus, I will and bequeath to the Paraches [sic] of the Methodist Episcopal church the meeting house with one acre of land on which it standeth with the free use and liberty of the [?Spring?]  Item I will and desire that my Negro woman Fann shall be free on the first of January one thousand eight hundred. Item my will is that my Negro boy Daniel shall be free in the year one thousand eight hundred and nine. Item My will is that part of my stocks, such as my Executors think proper may be sold for the use of schooling my children and that all the rest of my Estate both real and personal be kept together to support my children until the youngest may become of age, at which time my will is, that the whole of my Estate both real and personal, be equally divided among all my Children, that is now unmarried making my two Daughters, Mary Eudaley and Elizabeth Miller equal with the others, with what they have had. Item my will is that all my sons, William Tarpley, Robert, Thomas, John Oldham, and Peterson Tarpley, have each of them a house as they come of age, and it is my desire that thee be no appraisement of my estate, and I do hereby constitute and appoint John Tarpley, David Milwell Miller and Lewis Hammack Executors of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills. After all my just debts are discharged I give and dispose of what it hath pleased God to bless me with as herein and after named. Item my will and desire is that my land &amp; plantation whereon I now live, be equally divided into two parts and that my beloved wife Mary Magdalen Rawlins have right of choice of the parts, and that she have quiet and peaceable possession thereof during her natural life and at her death to my son John Rawlins to him and his heirs forever. Item I also give to my son John Rawlins from now the other half of the said land to him &amp; his heirs forever. Item where Mr William Henry Surveyor has in my name and in my behalf located and surveyed for me upon seeking in the state of Kentucky upwards of six hundred acres of land, now my will and desire is that said Henry be legally possessed of one half said land for his trouble and relative then to him and his heirs forever and the other half I give to my son John Rawlins to him and his heirs forever. My will is that he made free &amp; liberated forever. Item I give my son John Rawlins Farthing Peter, Handy, and Nancy to him &amp; his heirs forever. Item I lend to my beloved wife aforesaid during her life my horses, Paddy, Snip, Deek, Button &amp; old Bay mares young fold, and at her death to my son John, to him and his heirs forever, and the last and residue of my horses of every kind including my steed I give to my son John Rawlins to him and his heir forever. Item I lend to my beloved wife aforesaid during her natural life one equal part or half of my cattle, hogs and all my sheep, and at her death to my son John to him and his heirs forever, as also the other half of the said Stock from now. Know ye that I Suckey Chavis of the County of Charlotte for and in consideration of the Natural love and affection which I have and do bear to my Daughter Sally Chavis whom I purchased of Thomas Read Junior of the said County for the consideration of forty pounds, do emancipate Discharge and make free the said Sally Chavis my said daughter, and she is hence forth Deemed and Considered as a free person to all intents and purposes, no more to be Considered as a Slave or any part of my estate or that of any other person or persons claiming by from or under me. Witness my hand and seal this 31st day of January 1799.&#13;

              <text>I Thomas Scott of Charlotte County being of sound mind of memory do make this my last will and Testament. When I die I expect to be buried decently and hope for the eternal enjoyment of God in heaven forever. With respect to my estate it is my will that my just debts be paid. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah two negros, to wit Sam and Betty my Carriage and two horses to be disposed of as she may think proper to her and her heirs forever. I also lend unto my wife Sarah during her natural life four hundred acres of land I purchased of Leaderate and Mullins. I also lend my wife ten negros, to wit, Martin, Charles, Little Dick, Sterling, Abby, Little Betty, Judy, Molly, Peggy and Little Charles at her death to be equally divided between my two sons Henry Embry and William. I also lend unto my wife ten head cattle and my ox cart. Item I give unto my two sons Henry Embry and William all my lands I have in the Countys [sic] of Prince Edward and Charlotte together with the land I have lent to my wife to be equally divided between them to them their heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas my tract of land in the County of Campbell lying in the form of Staunton and falling rivers. I also give unto my son Thomas the following slaves and their future increase to wit, Major, Judy, Lucinder, George, Nathan, Cajon, Nancy, Muntrose, Peter, Nice and her two children, Billy, Scotland, Cate and her two children, Milly, James, Patty and her two children and Sam the son of Boston, one sound colt a horse called Farlton. Fear not mare and her two colts, three feather beds and furniture, twenty head hogs, and thirty head cattle to him his heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath to my sons Henry Embry and William all my slaves that are not heretofore given (except Boston) together with the slaves I have lent my wife to be equally divided between them when my son Henry Embry comes to the age of twenty years to them their heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my friend William Cooper fifty pounds to be raised from my estate. It is my will that my estate be kept together one year after my decease and then that part given to my son Thomas to be divided to him. It is my desire that the estate I have already given to my two sons Henry Embry and William be kept together their mutual support and benefit until my son Henry Embry comes to the age of twenty one years. I direct that my stock of all kinds not heretofore given be sold for the payment of my debts. I also direct that my old servant Boston be emancipated directly after my death and that my executors pay him ten dollars a year until my son Thomas arrives to age and then it is my desire that Thomas pay him the same sum a year as long as he may live. It is my will that if either of my sons should die before they arrive to age or marry, that part of my estate left them be equally divided between those that survive.               <text>In the name of God Amen I William Ward of the County of Charlotte being weak in body but of sound mind and memory, do dispose of the Estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with in the following manner, viz. after my just debts are fully paid and satisfied, then all the rest of my Estate both real and personal (except two Negro men named Mingo and Stepney) I give to my beloved wife Anne Ward during her natural life, and at her death I desire that all the negros given to my wife of every age and description whatsoever may be fully free, and discharged from serving any other person or persons whatsoever. I give my stock of every kind, household and kitchen furniture as well as all the rest of my personal estate to my beloved wife Anne to her and her heirs forever. It is my desire that after the death of my beloved wife Anne that all my lands may go to James Huntsman son of Adam Huntsman to him and his heirs forever. I desire that my two negros Ming and Stepney may be free after my death. I desire that James Huntsman should be educated two years at the expense of my estate and lastly I do appoint my beloved wife Anne Executrices and John Spencer and Robert Bedford executors of this my last will, declaring this only to be my last will and testament. This Last Will and Testament of William Ward decd was presented in Court by Anne Ward the Executrix and John Spencer one of the Executors therein named and the same was proved by the oath of William Brown one of the Witnesses thereto subscribed and Robert Bedford the other executor named in the will renounced in open Court the burden of the Execution of the said Will. And the said Robert Bedford being first sworn deposeth and saith that he saw Samuel Griffin one of the Witnesses to the said will subscribe the same as a witness in the presence of the Testator, and the said Robert Bedford also deposed that the Testator acknowledged the said Will as his act of Deed in his presence. Ordered that the said Will be admitted to record. On the motion of the said Executrix and executor who made oath according to law, certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form, they giving security whereupon they will Stephen Bedford and Thomas C Spencer their security entered into and acknowledged their Bond according to Law for that purpose.&#13;

Know ye that I William Bouldin of the County of Charlotte for sundry good causes and considerations one thereunto moving as well as the services and labor heretofore rendered to me by my negro woman Charlotte, do Emansipate [sic] discharge and make free the said Charlotte, and she is henceforth declared, and to be deemed and considered as a free person to all intents and purposes, and no more to be considered as a slave, or any part of my Estate or any other person or persons claiming by from or under me, and from henceforwards I do by this my Deed of Emansipation [sic] declare her free indeed. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this eleventh day of October 1799.&#13;
