	In the name of God Amen I Thomas Haynes of the county of Bedford and State of Virginia, being in perfect mind and memory, Blessed be God, do this fifth day of October, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Nine, make this my last Will and Testament.  First, I commend my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God, who gave it me nothing doubting but I shall receive it again at the general Resurection: and as for such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this Life, I give and dispose of it in the following form, to wit, Imprimis I desire that all my Negroe Slaves which I may be possessed of at my Death, as well as the following here after names, may be emancipated the court succeeding the day of my Decrease, to wit, Sarah, Rachel, Isabel, Dinah, Fany, Peter, Neal, George, Milley, Flanders, Daniel, Pleasant, James, Hannah, Washington, Caleb and Samuel with all their increase that they may hereafter have, from this Date to the time of my decease. Also I give, for the support of the above Negroe Slaves, the whole of my Estate real and personal after the payment of my just dents and funeral expenses and I do appoint William Gray, George Lambert and Aaron Powell, Executors to this my last will and Testament, revoking and disannulling all former Will or Wills and allowing and confirming this my last will and Testament. Rice Mary will&#13;
	In the Name of God Amen. I Mary Rice of Bedford County and State of Virginia being weak in Body, but fof disposinf mind and memory, &amp; being desirous to settle my Word affairs whilts I have strength and capacity so to as do make and publish this my last will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former Wills by me at any time here to for the made; and first and principally I commit my soul unto the hands of creator, who gave it and my body to the earth to be intered in a decent manner at the discertation of my Executors herein after named, and as to such worldly estate where surth it hath pleased God intrust me I dispose of the same as followeth Impressing It is my will and desire that all my slaves to wit, John, Ned, Dick Reubin, Sucky, Seneca, Sophia Luenxa her child, Dolly &amp; Edmund her child, Fanny and Micajah, Nelson, Matilda &amp; Sam her children, with all their future increase be emancipated &amp; set free, from the shakles of Slavery at my decease, but if that event should take place while they or any of them are hired out they shall continue to serve until the end of the year, and in that case they shall be entitled to one third of the proceeds of their labour or lease my further will and desire is that if the said slaves are not permitted to remain in the state by the existing laws of the same, and an act of Assembly cannot be procured suffering them to remain in that case my executors furnish them out of my estate the sum of thirty pounds to make them to remove to some other state if the said slaves shall be suffered to remain in this state, my will is that my Executors shall take the guardianship of the persons of such as are under the age of twenty one years but if Girls under the age of eighteen years and send them out to good trades, with conenantz to teach them ot cause them to be taught if a boy, reading, writing &amp; common arthametic, &amp; if a girl reading and writing – Furthermore, I give unto my severant Lucky my boy mare &amp; saddle, one feather bed (not the best) with its furniture one bridle cow, with her increase to her, her heirs &amp; assignes forever and as to the rest and reside of my Estate, I give &amp; bequeath the same to Elizabeth Rice, daughter of Benjamin Rice my husband to her and her heirs &amp; assignz forever – and lasty I constitute &amp; appoint Michael Graham &amp; Marten Key Executors of this my Last Will and Testament – In witness where of I the said Mary Rice have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirtieth day of June One Thousand eight hundred and twelve – delaring this in writing to contain my last Will and Testament 	&#13;

	In the Name of God Amen. I Barnabas Arthur of the County of Bedford, being weak in body but of sound &amp; disposing memory, Calling to mind the uncertainty of Life &amp; being desirous of disposing of such property as God hath blessed me with do make ordain and constitute this my Last Will and Testament hearby revoking and annulling all others. Imperinus. It is my will that all my debts be paid off as soon as possible after my decrease, Item I give and bequeath unto my wife Nancy one third part of my whole Estate for and during the term of my natural life of which then it is my will that the track of land I now live do constitute a part. Metcalf Vernon Will&#13;
	In the name of God Amen I Vernon Metcliff of the county of Bedford and State of Virginia being in sound health of mind but subject to great bodily infirunity do make this my last will and testament in motion and form following to wit. I give my soul to God its author trustory thro’ the mercies of Jesus Christ for a full portion of all my sins – Item 1st It is my will &amp; desire that all my Gust (?) debts be said as soon as possible that no crediors may be injuried a reference to my books will show the balance is due and which are more than sufficient to much an claims against me – Item 2nd It is my will and desire that my executors prep a settlement with the estate of Rowland Jones which is materinally indebted to me – Item 3rd to wit Ann Levert I leave five hundred dollars to be paid to three annual installments – 4th to my unfortunate sister Betty Metcliffe a maid Servant to which one(?) give for life &amp; at her death and at her death to return to the body of my estate I also leave the said Betty a room in my house for life is she chooses to stay and also request my executors to see he gentlelly maintained for life lenfine (?) her a bed and chest of drawers &amp; whereas I have ever received ~ Slavery as resuquit to every principal of Christianity &amp; are desirous that wherever a change of our laws will legislation such a measure in a way not to become desirious (?) to society that the slaves may be carried into effect to the opinion of my executoes and with their reserve (?) that they are be kept together during the life little of my wife and sister and their as fast is the young ones arrive to the age of twenty six years with the exception of my woman Doll who I have the best reason to believe has four lines (?) at least accompled my life, therefore request she may be sold – 5 To my beloved wife I give all the property which reverted to me by marriage both real and personal to her and her heirs forever I also lend her of the residence of my estate one third part, during her life or widowhood the balance of my estate of every description to my son James and his heirs but in case he should die instate and without I pree there one half of my estate to revert to the heirs AV Levert (my sister) the other mority to my beloved wife and her heirs forever and should it in the widow of my executors be out of their power to effect an emancipation an the grounds suggested then it is my that the bonds of slavery be softened as much possible by making their situation as easy as possible and I herby appoint my friends George Cabell Robert Mobriss and Bulda ~ W Daniel my executor and the guardian of my child being that care he taken ~of this moral conduct and I herby revoke all former wills by me made Witness my hand and seal this 21st day of October 1817-								V. In the name of God Amen I Thomas Arthur of Bedford County Virginia being weak in body and&#13;
sound and purified memory to make this my last will and testament as follows to wit first&#13;
committing my soul to God my body to be decently buried Item I lend to my beloved wife during&#13;
her widowhood one third part of my estate except the land my son John now lives on and at his&#13;
marriage and increase I give the said third part to be equally divided among all my children Item&#13;
I give to my son John the land and plantation whereto he now lives on Ammons Branch&#13;
combining one hundred acres to him and his heirs forever Item I give all of my other lands to be&#13;
equally divided among my other children at my death Item I give all of my other estate to be&#13;
equally divided among all my children in manner and form as follows viz it is my will and desire&#13;
that my negro boy called John King be set free at twenty one years of age and will them to&#13;

	In the name of God Amen I Nelson Anderson of Bedford County and State of Virginia being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory blessed be god for the same, well knowing it is appointed unto all men once to die and uncertain how soon it may please God to call me from the Stage of action into the World of Spirits and being desireous to settle any worldly affairs whilst I have strength and capacity so to do, do make and publish this my last Will and Testement hereby revoking and making void, all former Wills by me at my time heretofore made, and first and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator who gave it herby harking that when he shall think fit to remove it from this Taberncle of clay, to enjoy free pardon and remission of all my Sins, and everlasting happiness in his heavenly Kingdom through the merits of Jesus Christ my Savior as to my body, it is my desire, to be buryed in my own Garden by the side of my deceased companion, without pomp or parade as the custom of some is and is as to my worldly goods, with which it has pleased God to bless me, my will is first that all my just debts, as shall be by me owing at my death and all charges touching the proving or otherwise, concerning this my will shall in the first place, out of my personal Estate, both real and personal, I will and dispose of it in the manner and form following To wit I lend to my daughter Ann C Thompson the tract of land, I purchased of Obediah Reynolds during her natural life, and at her death the same to be sold on a credit of Twelve months by my Executors herein after named, who are hereby empowered to convey, a title in fee simple to the purchaser, or purchases and the money arising from such sale, to be equally divided, among all her Children share and share alike also I lend to my said daughter, Ann C Thompson, the one half of my negroes, which are not especially given, hereafter during her natural like, and at her death the same to be equally divided among all her children in the most equitable way, Item I give to my son Alexander Anderson five hundred pounds, lawful money of Virginia including a bond on Receipt I have of his of one hundred and Twenty five pounds, principal, Item I give to my Grand Son, John N Anderson my house clock and two hundred acres of land whereon I now live including the dwelling house, beginning at a Small branch, at my old hog pen, and running Straight line first below my Spring, in the lane thence up the hill, so as to Strike the Road, as it now runs from the corner of ground Cleared by Thomas Floyd thence along Said road to the dividing line, between where his mother now lives, so as to make the quantity of acres by running the other dividing line, as far back as the house, which Sylva Kenny now lives in, thence acrss to or near , the head of the branch which was the beginning to him and his heirs &amp; assignes forever, Item I give to my Grand Son Charles Anderson Two hundred and Thirty acres, part of the Tract of land whereon I now live and one negroe, Boy and one negroe boy  the name of William Kenny to him and his heirs and assignes forever Item I give to my Grand Son commonly called Robert Spotswood Anderson the residence of my Land where on I now live and one negro boy named Isaac Kenny, to him and his heirs and assigns forever, but if either of my Grand Sons last named, should died under age, or without lawfull Issue my will is that the Survivor shall inherit the Lands and negroes forever and if both should die under age or without lawful issue, I give in that the lands and negroes before named be equally divided among the Surviving children of my Son Jesse Anderson deceased share and Share alike which I give to them and there heirs &amp; assignes forever Item I give to my Grandson’s Nelson A Thompson one negro woman by the name of Sylvia Kenny also her daughter Sook, Son Reubin provided he doth fully comply with my will &amp; all things herein after mentioned Item I give to my grandson John S Jones two hundred pounds lawfull money of Virginia deducting the amount of his bond to me if not paid off before Item I give to my Grand Son Alexander Pinkney Jones the Sum of Two hundred pounds lawfull money of Virginia Item I give to my Grand daughter Francis A. M. Perkins, the Sum of Two hundred pounds lawfull money of Virginia to her and her heirs forever, Item it is my will and desire that my tract of Land, adjoining Major Thomas Logwood be sold on a Credit of Three Years, and the proceeds appropriated as herein after directed and that my Executors convey a title in fee Simple by deed to the purchaser or purchasers but if in the opinion of my Executors it will be more advantageous to rent it annually or for a term of years that the rents and profits be appropriated as herein after directed Item it is my will and desire that my negroe boy Lindsey Bondparte be emancipated and set Free, from the schackles of Slavery and I do hereby fully set him free to take effect at my Decease, and I do appoint my Grandson Nelson A Thompson, his Guardian and commit to him his tuition during his Minority but in case of his death, then I will, and appoint that my much esteemed living Friend Joseph Slaughter, shall have the tuition and Guardianship of the Said Lindsaey Bonaparte during such his minority and, after him, I will that my beloved friend John L Cobbs, shall succeed and have the petition and Guardianship of him the Said Lindsey Boneparte, during his minority and in each care, I earnestly entreat there utmost care respecting in &amp; about, his morals &amp; education, and my father Will, is that at Seven Years of age, he being born in August one thousand eight hundred &amp; fifteen he be put to School and kept constantly at learning, til he arrives at the age of fifteen years, at which period my will is that he be bound to a good trade according to the discretion of his Said Guardian or Guardians which in there opinion will be most conducive, to his advancement and happiness in life, for the term of five years and no longer, and to defray the expenxes of his boarding scollling and clothing I give him the Interest of the money arriving from the Sale of the Land, before mentioned adjoining Major Thomas Logwood or the annual rent of the Same, if not Sold, and if any overplus remain I give it to him for pocket Monsy, provided he make a prudent use of it, but if he is dissipated Keeps bad Company or Gambles he is not to receive any of the over plus but the Same shall remain in the hands of the Guardian, until he shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years I give him the aforesaid Tract of land, with all its Tents and profits, or the proceeds of the Sale thereof to him and his heirs and assignes forever, But if the Said Lindsay Bonaparte should die under age in that case my will is that the proceeds of the Tract of land aforesaid, being Sold and all the rent profits and issues, thereof be divided into Two equal mortise the one half I give to the Children of my daughter Ann J Thompson, the other half to the Children of my deceased Son Jesee Anderson to be divided equally – Severally among them which I give to them and there herirs forever Item in consideration of the Faithful Services of my cook named Milly my will is that she be at Liberty to make choice, of her Master or Mistress with whom she would prefer living and in case she should be disabled by age Infirmity or accident from comfortably supporting herself I give to my Executor, the Sum of Two hundred dollars in trust for her use, to be administered according to her necessities at the discretion of my Executor and if any thing remain at her death, be equally divided among the children of my daughter Ann J Thompson, and the Children of my Son Jesse Anderson deceased Item It is my will farther, that immediately after my decrease my Executors divide all my negroes not before mentioned into Two equal parts so as not to separate families that is to say the mothers with there children and set a value on each lot, and that lot which is of most Value, pay the difference to the other to make them equal and in as much as my daughter Thompson is the oldest I giver to her her choice of Lot, which I confirm, to her as before mentioned and the other half of my negroes so divided I give to the Children of my son Jesse Anderson deceased to be equally divided between them to them &amp; theirs forever. Item my will and desire further is that at my death, all my Stock of every description house hold and Kitchen furniture and plantaion Utensiles be sold on a credit of Twelve months, and the money arriving from Such sale be applied to the paying off, the pecuminary Legaces before mentioned and the balance of any remaining with the money, I have on interest after discharging the legacies aforesaid, to be equally divided between the children of my daughter Ann J Thompson and the children of my dcessed Son Jessee Anderson, in the same manner, as I have directed a division of my negroe property, and Lastly my express will and meaning is and I do herby order and appoint that if any difference dispute question or controversy shall be moved arise or happen concerning any Gift bequest ot other matter, ot thing in this my will given and bequeathed expressed or contained that then no Suit or Suits of law or equity or otherwise shall be brought, commenced or prosecuted, for and concerning the Same but the Same Shall be referred, wholly to the award, order and determination of my loving friends Charles Steward and Hardiway Hatcher both of Bedofrd County and what they Shall order direst, ot determinr therin shall be binding and conclusive to and on all and every person &amp; persons, therein concerned, And I do appoint my Grandsons Nelson A Thompson and John L Cobb Executors of this my last Will &amp; Testament whereof I have Subscribed my name to the five proceeding pages and do her Subscribe my name and affix my Seal, this Seventeenth day of February 1819. Steptoe of the County of Bedford and state of Virginia for and in consideration of the general&#13;
good character and conduct of Pleasant alias Pleasant Rowan now my slave and especially for&#13;
